Title: Season 7 Day 1 - Let's Gooooooo!
Post by: IainC on February 15, 2013, 02:55:45 PM
Finally we're ready to start! The seeding video is up here http://youtu.be/hsVPJ9VyqqM and the divisions have been created ingame so you can schedule your matches and get to it.

Here is the seeding along with who is who:

Division 1 - Warhammer 40k
Danicia
Lightfax
Swiftblade
Megrim
Ulysees
Celer
Carnifex
Falconeer

Division 2 - Hail Caesar
z22 (aka Gort)
Ruvaldt
Eldaec (aka Ramas)
HaemishM
Sjofn
Avaia
Gruntle
Jasper

Division 3 - Hordes
Schpain (aka ChiefTripodBear)
Willlisterman
Modern Angel (aka Brocktoon)
Luckton
Drogg
Reborne
Catfud
Teleku

Division 4 - Tamurkhan
RK47 (aka R3dknight)
Fildrigar
Satael
Proudft
IainC
Ezrast
Lamaros
Ingmar

Here are the first day fixtures you should organise and play these by Monday Feb 25th. Lightfax gets a 2-0 default win as Falc isn't around to play his first game. I'll do that on the last day in case Falc suddenly finds that he can play after all.

Everyone should be in the f13 Bloodbowlers Steam group so look for each other there and get those game arranged. I intend to be a lot less tolerant of over-runs in this league than previously. Games that haven't been played and don't have a definite kick-off date by the deadline will be forfeited as 0-0 draws.

Some reminders:
Matches will not be validated until they have been uploaded to BBManager. I have created the f13 Season 7 league in there and the password is skullskull. Normally the winner should upload but as long as somebody does I don't much care.
Matches are using two minute turns. If you aren't used to that then I strongly suggest that you get in some feeder league or other soft games first with 2 minute turns to get acclimated to the change in pace. In general you should be planning your move during your opponent's turn and not tabbing out to browse porn as I many people do.
It's strongly encouraged to write up your matches here on the forums. It's not mandatory and if you've just been bent over by Nuffle I fully understand that you might be reluctant to revisit the horror again so soon but do what you can, we all appreciate reading someone else's hard luck story; it makes us feel better about our own.

With the benefit of timezones, the opening match of Season 7 should be a veteran smashup between Reborne's Wrestlers and Alive not Dead!  :drill: :awesome_for_real:

Schpain, any time this weekend should be good for me.  I actually have a three day weekend because George Washington decided to be born around this time, so all day Monday works as well.  I was going to go to Krakow for debauchery this weekend, but I kind of feel like shit, so I'll stay home and play blood bowl instead.

I've moved from the center of the universe that is US Pacific time over to Poland, with is GMT +1.  What is your time zone?

Wrestlers 1 - 4 Alive Not Dead

So, Llyse's luck holds out.

I had no doubt that he was going to win but in the kick offs he got 2 blitz' and 2 quick snaps in his favour.
Also, he was the only one to cause injuries. Thankfully only badly hurt.
I know you were all hoping that Hobbs would kill himself on my Ogres but that joy belongs to someone else.

A few miss-clicks by Llyse meant that I wasn't as behind as I could have been.

I did get a couple of good moments.
I do love my 1 turn touch downs  :drill:

Well played Llyse.

I think our Commissioner and Fildrigar beat me to the punch but this is the first match posted.

And the winner is!

You know those games where you win but you are still yelling profanities at the monitor because Nuffle is giving you some of his special sauce? Yeah, just had one of those. To be fair to Fildrigar, he also had plenty of opportunities to yell at his monitor too.

This was a comedy of errors, first action turnovers and horrible dice rolls at both ends. The winner was going to be whoever ended up managing to not fail dice rolls the most.

The Chaos team kicked the ball off the pitch so I gave it to Cosplay is for Amateurs, my Thrower who was safely tucked away at the back. Meanwhile I had a cunning plan involving the Rat Ogre Secretly A Unicorn making a bit of space in the middle and then Stormvermin wrapping up the wings. For the very first action of the game, Secretly A Unicorn throws a block, gets a push, follows up and then rolls double skulls. Burn a reroll but the loner skill says 'Nuh uh!', SaU hits the deck, KOs himself on the way down and that's my first turn over. The Chaos team take full advantage and swarm my exposed guys but luckily don't manage more than a handful of pushes before running out of time. I modify my cunning plan to one where I draw the Chaos players into a scrum in the middle before breaking the ball out and carrying it out of range. I throw some blocks back and again get a bunch of pushes but that's fine. I'm out-bashed and I don't expect to be knocking down Chaos Warriiors with linemen. I move I Have A Backstory You Know out to get a better line on something and he fails a dodge. I've already used my reroll so that's it again and I've not yet moved my Thrower out of range of the rampaging Beastmen. The Chaos team park a Beastman next to Cosplay Is For Amateurs before kicking the crap out of all the Skaven in reach. Cosplay is For Amateurs tries to dodge away, fails, eats a reroll, fails that and then stuns himself trying to work out just how hard he failed. The ball is now loose deep in my half with no mobile rats in range of it. Enlivened by this display of crapness, the Chaos team injure a Gutter Runner called I Was Born A Dragon You Know, knock down a couple more Skaven for good measure and then grab the ball to walk it over the line for an early score.

We kick off again and my Rat Ogre is still out so I'm down to 9 players vs a full Chaos team. It's a short kick so Cosplay is For Amateurs grabs the ball and scampers back out of blitz range. He's still a bit nervous about the last drive so he goes for it one extra square to get out of marking range too and falls over stunning himself once again. The Chaos team bring their greater numbers and higher strength to bear and take down a bunch of Skaven including a KOd and a stunned linerat. Things go south for them when a block goes bad vs a Stormvermin who remains standing after a both down and the Skaven start to push back. I injure a Beastman with a Gutter Runner Block and then promptly stun a linerat with a failed dodge. The Chaos team swoop in on the ball but fumble it and the rats have half a paw back in the game. Cosplay Is For Amateurs stands up, dodges away from his marker, grabs the ball, dodges again to a clear square and lines up a throw to an unmarked Gutter Runner on the opposite wing. Unfortunately he fumbles the pass, rerolls with his pass skill and fumbles that too. Two more Skaven leaves the pitch when the Chaos team score a Badly Hurt injury on I Have A Backstory You Know and a KO on Let Me Show You My Fursuit. Unfortunately they then fail a GfI trying to get to the ball. Cosplay Is For Amateurs reprises his dodge, pickup, dodge trick from the previous turn, unfortunately he also reprises his fumble, reroll fumble anyway routine. The Chaos team take him down, grab the ball  with a Chaos Warrior and then foul him resulting in a Beastman being ejected for unsporting behaviour. I put some markers on the Chaos Warrior with the ball and then get double skulls on a two dice block against him. Luckily he's still double marked so, after clearing away one marker, he still has to make a dodge to score which he fails and that's the first half. I'm 1-0 down and a depressingly large chunk of my team are in the dugouts.

Secretly A Unicorn and Let Me Show You My Fursuit come back which means I'm down to 8 players for the second half, while the Chaos team have nine thanks to an injury and a sending off. I kick short, the Chaos team throw all the blocks they can, knocking down the Rat Ogre and a Stormvermin but not doing any damage. In my turn Yiffy the Gutter Runner makes a couple of dodges, burns a reroll on a GfI to get to the ball and then makes another GfI and a dodge to get to a clear square. Another Gutter Runner is close by to receive the ball but he's been learning to throw by watching Cosplay Is For Amateurs and so the ball is fumbled. A Beastman blitzes Yiffy as the first Chaos action, gets a bad result, rerolls it and they both go down anyway. The ball is loose in the Chaos half and I have a Gutter Runner in scoring range so Let Me Show You My Fursuit comes steaming up the pitch, grabs the ball and throws it to Not Going To Lie, Fur Is Hot who scampers over to the endzone to tie the game.

Now we're both down to 8 players a side and the Chaos team come out swinging but fail to do any damage to the Skaven. They do manage to get the ball safe though. Unfortunately the Beastman with the ball is in blitz range and so a couple of Gutter Runners put assists on him while It's Not A Costume shows him some Stormvermin love. Not Going To Lie, Fur Is Hot sprints in and grabs the ball before running to relative safety with it. I mark up the Chaos players that I can but KO a Linerat in the process. The Chaos team are in a bad spot, I have the ball and their players are tied up, they push a few rats out of the way but fail a GfI trying to get more markers on the ballcarrier. I push away the marker and then romp over the line to take the lead.

The next drive again sees the Chaos team with a slight numerical advantage as 8 rats and 9 Chaos players take the pitch. There are only 4 turns left so it's going to be hard for the Chaos team to equalise and they start badly by getting a turnover on their very first block. The Skaven turn isn't much better as Secretly A Unicorn fails his Wild Animal roll and then You Wouldn't Understand fails a dodge, burns a reroll and still fails, injuring himself in the process. The Chaos team grab the ball and push down the pitch in a desperate bid for a late score but a failed GfI on a blitz leaves the ball carrier dangerously exposed. The Skaven surround the Beastman with the ball, Secretly a Unicorn KOs a Chaos Warrior and it looks as though I have a safe-ish 2-0 win in hand. There is a little scrum forming on one sideline with the ball in the middle, held by a Beastman. I'm confident he can't move forwards but I'm not confident I can get it away from him. Another bad Chaos block however gives me an in and it's Not a Costume knocks down two Beastmen in quick succession - one who threw a block at him and one who he threw a block at. The last of these was the guy with the ball which bounced into the hands of Not Going To Lie, Fur is Hot who slips away, makes a pass to Let Me Show You My Fursuit and that's a third Skaven touchdown.

We have one turn left each, I have 7 players to the 9 Chaos guys on the field. They fluff a block and that's their game over. I throw a few blocks, grab the ball and try a pass for cheap SPPs but that backfires when a Chaos Warrior makes an intercept. The whistle blows and I've won 3-1 despite an utterly awful start to the game.

Purple Inferno 2-1 over Vast Mountain Raiders.  Looking at the Purple Inferno's schedule, which, quite frankly at first glance to me looks AWESOME (all newish teams, not too many heavy bashers), it looked like the Raiders might be the bashiest team we were going to play, and so I started very conservatively, choosing to kickoff (and hope they score early in that half), keeping the bloodthirster off the line on the setup, etc.

The Inferno had a pretty good first half, with zero frenzy fuckups and managed to swoop in amongst the Raiders, KO the troll, knock the ball loose and be clear to score with about 3 turns left in the half.  There was stall potential here, but I wanted to ensure at least one score for the Inferno and was not confident about surviving any blocks.  So, first half continued, and the troll woke up.  In the short number of turns they had left, the Raiders did not get into TD range and were going to attempt a last-turn in the half goblin->troll TD but, wise to that goblin sneakery, the Inferno concentrated their firepower on the troll and though unsuccessful at knocking him down, pushed him a long way from the goblin and basically surrounded.

Second half was a totally different story and basically a complete mess for both sides.  The Inferno started with some frenzy fuckups, then the bloodthirster Dis got HAMMERED and was going to MNG with a broken spine or something but the apothecary rushed to the rescue because that's why we bought him, to keep Dis in the game.   At one point the saucy Raiders goblin even tried to foul Dis (what optimism!) but the ref saw him and he was ejected.

During all this the Raiders really swarmed in on the Khorne forces and both sides got mixed in amongst one another in a chaotic melee with numerous failed attempts to pick up the ball.  This extended ruckus was going to really favor the higher-strength black orcs in the mess if it extended very long, and the Inferno was looking at not only a tie, but a bunch of potential injuries during the fracas.  The Raiders eventually got the ball before killing anyone and ran in a TD with about 2 turns left in the game.   It was looking like a sure tie now, barring any weird events like extra turns.  Both sides were out of rerolls, and so anything else seemed unlikely.

Purple Inferno received, ran one bloodletter up the side, got another in position to take a handoff and run up the other side, and then the pit fighter failed to pick up the ball.  Now it surely looked like game over.  The orcs took one last turn of blocks, ran a blitzer down to the ball to grab it (but he dropped it) and it was over to the Inferno's last turn and surely the end of the game in a draw.

And then they put their elf suits on.  A pit fighter ran around and blocked the blitzer and cleared him from the ball.  Then another ran, picked up the ball, ran to the demon who was poised for the previous-turn handoff (one GFI during this), handed off successfully.  The demon then ran up the side, hooked over to the middle, and passed to the one who was up the other sideline, successfully.  Second Khorne score of the game, for a totally stolen victory.  For the Khorne!

No actual injuries for either side.  Minos the Bloodletter went up his first level, and took Block.  Stats:

So, an interesting game for the Underworld first up, with a bunch of annoying Humans pushing them all over the place, playing with ease and (successful daring). They went crazy for passing, making 7 of 8, and handoffs, making 10 of 12 catches.

I found the game exhausting and so I don't have any writeup in me for the moment, but it's on BB Manager and I'll probably elaborate later.

Summary: I had three chances to get the edge needed to win, failing to stop rk scoring in the first after sacking the carrier when he went for a full pitch collect, dodge, throw, handoff, dodge scoring play. Then failing a handoff catch run in a score on the last in the first. Then failing a GFI (resulting in a injury to my blitzer) after sacking the carrier in the second, from which he collected, threw and handed off another full-pitch score, going 2-1 up. I eventually tied it on the last turn of the game.

Despite getting a few players injured I managed to reroll death and serious injury, leaving me with just 4 badly injured guys. He also rerolled a death to badly hurt.

rk was seriously risky in much of his play, throwing the ball back and forth on the last line of the pitch almost every turn he got the chance. He luckily only failed once, and the bounce landed in field.

Despite the score, this match was closer than it looks.  Schpain played his team really well, and it was only by some pretty close dice rolls that I was able to keep him from scoring.  He was also given 1,080,000 gold in inducements, which he used to buy Morg, A Halfling Master Chef, and a Wizard.  Morg was worth his weight in gold, knocking out or injuring several of my players, including wardancers (I had to save a permanent injury from one of them with an apoth on the 2nd damned turn).  Both of my wardancers spent a large amount of the game knocked out on the sideline, which made this a lot more tricky.  The Chef stole 2 rerolls from me each half.

The game was just a bash fest from the get go.  He kicked it straight into the hands of a wardancer I had on the front line on the first turn, and I decided to run it in rather than do my normal passing BS.  Every round after that was a slug fest, with no passing to be had in the game except on the very last turn.  Oddly, I actually injured three of his players to the two of mine he injured.  Everybody was just dropping in this game.  Still my elves managed to hold out and attack his ball carrier, which he tended to leave un-caged in favor of a full line assault on my elves across the entire field.  While this took a toll on my elves, I was eventually able to finagle a TD out of it, and slow him down enough to keep him out of scoring range by one space.

Still, the game would have been 2-0 if not for some nuffle fucking at the end.  After one play, I had my star catcher near the ball, but he had knocked down pretty much everybody else near it, and had a wall of orcs caging off any support.  The ball was marked by Morg.  At the end of his turn, he used his wizard to cast lighting on my lone elf.  Which promptly fizzled (as seems to happen every time somebody uses lighting on me.  Guys, my elves wear antlers on their heads.  It works like a lighting rod!).  My elf then dodged out of the tackle zones, picked up the marked ball, dodged away from Morg, and then ran three GFI's in a row to score.

Turn 16 comes around.  The previous turn, I had managed to knock the ball lose, but was out of rerolls and nobody who could pick up the double marked ball very easily.  So I had moved most of my guys near it, left one thrower in the back field, one thrower mid field, and ran a catcher away from everybody and into scoring range.  My goal was to pray he had some bad block rolls and left the ball open for me to try and grab, hand off to a thrower, than pass to the catcher on the next turn.  Or if that failed, I knew it would be a solid cage of orcs around it by the end of his turn, so was hoping I could push an orc to crowd surf it out of bounds for a good throw in.

Neither happened, as he managed to knock down or injure all my elves nearby, then marked it with a bunch of orcs.  But then he tried to have his goblin pick it up as his last play, who failed, dropping it on the line of orcs, who proceeded to fumble the thing out of bounds.  It was thrown back in on my half, in easy pick up range for my spare QB.  A quick run and throw to my pro catcher, and the game is made 4-0 on the very last turn of the game.

So yeah, a lot of luck made the score the way it is.  Truth be told, the score easily could have been 2-1 had the luck been a little more even, and if I had been a bit more unlucky, a 2-2 tie.  He played quite well.

Also, my kicker got MVP.   :awesome_for_real:

The Nifty Helmets tied the Blitzburg Brewers in an exciting 0-0 game.

WIth their 900K in inducements Gort's team took the wizard, 2 stars: Morg and the Scrapa (pogo goblin) and ...?
The Brewers chose to receive and the Helmets set up a front heavy line without their two claw goats (claw Minotaur anchoring the center though). The ball was kicked out of bounds and delivered to Scrappa, who Morg then failed to throw (attempting to pass the Helmets front line for a quick score). He blitz KO'd a guarding goat to open a hole on the side and his troll knocked down a warrior in the front-line but then the Helmets got to respond and the Mr. Big (minotaur) immediately badly hurt the troll (who failed to regenerate) taking him out of the rest of the game, and knocked down a few more blitzers to get close to Scrapa with the ball. Morg threw Scrapa who wasn't able to keep his feet landing on a goat (knocking the goat down) and ended up dropping the ball. A continuation of unlucky dice for both sides (failed GFIs, wild animals and pickups mostly) meant the rest of the first half was spent pushing the ball around near the sideline, and when the Helmets finally attempted a break near the end, we failed to have anyone in scoring range.
Two successful KO rolls meant that Gort was just able to field a full 11 (out of the team 14 with extras) at the start of the 2nd half, and the helmets who were receiving put their two claw goats on a wide front-line. A riot cost the clock a turn (might argue cost the Helmets a score) and a perfectly positioned kick put the ball on the helmets goal-line, where san-gor (the strong goat) as the only helmet within range had to run back to scoop it up. Mr. Big badly hurt a black orc then at the start of the following turn double skulled and loner'd the reroll before the ball carrier moved from the backfield. The Brewer's wizard saw its chance and lightning-struck the ball carrying goat KO'ing it and leaving the ball near the helmet's goal line, Brewer goblins made a race for the backfield from the sides. The rest of the half, Morg and the remaining black orcs slugged it out with the Minotaur and a few warriors in the midfield tying them up while goblins and blitzers fought goats for ball in the helmet's backfield. Eventually the Helmet's bashiness won through and they wrested the ball back to the half but with only one turn remaining they couldn't just take the two turns to run it in. Because they're slow learners there was only one chaos warrior standing within scoring range. The Brewers went for it to double cover the warrior and the helmet's were left with a hail mary situation for their last turn. Immediately the helmets wasted a reroll on a GFI to get a goat bearing on the defenders, then the warrior's blitz failed to knock a hole in the coverage so he had to attempt a dodge away to get into position to receive a scoring pass (ha!) -- a dodge which he failed. With the ball still held by a helmet in the midfield, the Brewers used their final turn to take revenge for their two deaths by knocking down the claw/mightyblow/jumpup goat who was then stomped to death by Scrapa (it was his time soon anyway, -av/+niggle; the apothecary suggested death was the only recourse). And with Scrapa being sent off the field the buzzer blew ending a scoreless game.

Two helmet-wearing chaos warriors leveled. Game was uploaded to bbmanager.

Neither happened, has he managed to knock down or injure all my elves nearby, then marked it with a bunch of orcs.

Some of those consecutive rolls you got off were nothing short of spectacular, generally a great game.  I think if I hadn't lubed up with alcohol pre-match I might have thrown my laptop out the balcony!!

Once I got those wardancers off the pitch we were actually able to play a reasonable game (apoc reroll wardancer injury ASdOISAJFsofh, also lightning fizzle ASdOISAJFsofh).  With that star catcher and the 2 dancers, it didn't matter how much protection I had on the ball; you'd leap in, grab it and run out...  I didn't give enough respect to your high SPP players, I'd never played against a 2k TV team before so i figured if i marked you 1:1 and slowly crumpled your line, a couple of orcs guarding the ball would suffice.  Boy was I wrong.

Teleku's team is the definition of elven bullshit.  :awesome_for_real:
And yet I never make it past the first round of playoffs.   :awesome_for_real:

This was a harsh match up, frankly.  Schpain didn't come in with a groomed feeder league team, just a raw 960 point orc team.  My team in particular is really rough on new teams, as none of them have players who have developed the basic skills to stop my BS.  So I tend to run up the score (I believe I did a 7-0 game one time in a season...) without them having any way to stop me.  This balances out fairly fast as even a medium skilled team (matched with a good coach) has the player skills to make my BS much harder to pull off.  So oh well, good game, use it as a learning experience (basically, in the future, cage the shit out of your ball carrier when playing against a team such as mine.  The full court press you did hurt, but all I need is one wardancer to ruin your day and end the drive.  Cage and force me to try and break through a big angry block of green.  That hurts.  A LOT.)

Speaking as someone who brought a shit ton of Elven bullshit to previous seasons, the main things that made my Wardancers cry were Guard and Sure Hands. Wardancers are the best things ever for breaking cages. Two disposable Elves mark all four corners between them and then the Wardancer leaps into the middle and blocks the ball carrier. Even with a 1d block the Wardancer gets the ball 5/6 times once you give her Strip Ball (4/6 if the ball carrier has Block). Guard makes that a whole lot harder to do. Sure Hands means that the Wardancer only gets the ball half the time (a third of the time if the ball carrier has Block or Dodge and 1/6 times with both).

Good write-up Gruntle.  As I feared, I have a wrecked teamed after playing my newbie 1000 TV team vs Gruntle's ClawBomb killers. I suffered 2 deaths and 4 injuries. What's the lowest a teams TV can go?  I'll be at it for sure! At least I did the league a favor and killed a ClawBomber on the last play of the game. Sorry Gruntle, that killer had to go!

Looks like Morg'N'Thorg will be a permanent player on my roster this season!  :ye_gods:

A solid, hard-fought 1-1 tie with willisterman's dwarves. It was about what you would expect. The chaos dwarves were on the good end of a Blitz event on turn one, and it looked like a slaughter was impending, but luck failed me in the latter part of the first half, with a bewildering array of both downs and double skulls. The dwarves fought back gamely and the Death Roller was put to very good effect; dwarves went up 1-0 just before halftime.

With the chaos dwarves receiving the kick-off in the second half, it was a different story. A solid open lane was available on the left side of the pitch for my bulls to run down. I was primed for a two turn score... and then my minotaur decided to wild animal, letting the slower dwarves close the gap. As it was, I scored, but I had to play for the tie. We shoved each other around a bit, but nobody was going to catch Snuggly Kuddlykins the bull centaur. He ran it in on the last turn and we let it at the tie.

The Dwarven team distracted the ref, and then rolled their secret weapon onto the pitch, lining it up against the largest thing out there.  By the time the ref had noticed, the game was already in progress, and it was too late to do anything about it!

Although outmatched in strength and speed, The dwarves fought against the chaos dwarves valiantly at the start, trading blow for blow, even when their darker brethren cheated at the start, going even before the whistle was blown!  They quickly (for dwarves) ran into our side of the pitch before we could even react, surrounding the ball!  A bloody battle was fought near it, with two of the hobgoblins hurt, and carried off the pitch early on.

Funus the Troll Slayer took an instant dislike to the Bull Centaurs, after being singled out by them early on, and made it his mission to deal as much damage to them as possible!  With both of them down for a short while, the dwarves saw their chance, and moved as fast as their stubbly little legs would carry them to the other side of the pitch, stopping only to hit the odd dwarf who got in their way.

It was at this point that the ref got his act together, and kicked the death roller off the pitch.  This left the dwarf team much weaker, which the chaos dwarves quickly capitalised on, using their superior strength and speed to dominate the pitch.  The Dwarves could to little more than slow the centaurs down, managing to close down one side of the pitch.  Funus, bored with Centaurs now, charged head first into their Minotaur, caring nothing for his bulk, and slamming him back, almost off the pitch.  Dwarf after dwarf threw themselves against his greater bulk, but after Funus was hurt, nobody could touch the Minotaur, and the Centaurs ran off to the other side of the pitch.  Dwarves were dropping left right and centre, till few remained standing, and the Chaos Dwarves easily carried to ball off, to draw.

So, Orcs versus a new Amazon team and the poor Amazon's came off rather badly :(

The score was 2-0 to the Orcs, the Amazons had 1 death and 3 injuries despite the Orcs constant double skull rolling and the Amazon's ability to dodge almost everything the Orcs threw at them!

Got some SPP and a win, so happy days for the Orcs.

8 Eyes 2-0 over The Banned. Take that, predictions thread!

My crew of rats turned out to be surprisingly scrappy and while they spent a lot of time on the ground, they held off the Necromantic players while my Troll brought the pain and tied up Flesh Golems in between bouts of stupidity. 8 Eyes' grasp on the ball was tenuous at times and The Banned very nearly scored during the second half, which would have likely ended the game in a tie. The dice were all on my side when it came to last-ditch efforts though - both of my touchdowns would have been prevented had Ingmar's werewolves not failed GFI rolls on the way to sack my carrier, and when Ingmar's ghoul looked primed to score my wizard took out both his defenders with a well-placed fireball (permanently turning HRose into ash) and my Thrower executed a perfect blitz-GFI-pickup maneuver.

Was a fun game and I'm suddenly optimistic about my band of merry mutants. Though not too optimistic because I haven't forgotten what happened last time I played an AV7 team.

The First Ladies 1 - 1 Understone Raiders

I chose a wizard and two rerolls as my inducements for the match, figuring I would need them for the centaur to have a chance at picking up the ball, and then chose to receive the ball, though it appeared to be raining.

The first few rounds went rather well for me, block-wise I knocked down Jasper's linerats fairly readily, and he managed mostly pushes and both downs.  He got a bit overzealous and rushed the ball as it floundered around, but he had very good reason to as I was proving unable to get it into the hands of anyone.  After four rounds of inconclusive play, and pushing Jasper as much out of my top left as I could, I finally managed to pick up the ball and caged up, running toward the endzone.  On my seventh turn I scored, though it was with a hobgoblin, sadly.

Jasper had some time to score, but in his opening turn he failed a dodge away from one of my linedwarves and that ended pretty much any chance of an equalizer in the first half.

The second half opened with me kicking off and sending the ball pretty much right at his thrower's feet.  It is at this time that the blood really started to pour, and over the following six rounds Jasper moved the ball back and forth, whittling down my pieces with his claw Stormvermin (who make me pine for Fillmore/Truman).  He even managed to kill Nancy Reagan, the pinko!  I kept the pressure on him as much as I could, and succeeded on more GFI rolls than I ever have in my life, but by the end I simply wasn't able to track down his thrower as he blitzed and ran away from me several times.  Even my wizard failed to make contact.  The match ended with me taking a few pot-shots and grabbing spps.

Jasper's a great coach, and I had a lot of fun with the game.  I'm looking forward to many more against him.

Nancy had it coming, I tell yah.

It was a great match!  I was expecting opportunity when the rain started to pour, but I couldn't quite get at the ball and after you recovered I was out of position and so you just plowed forward to score.  Out of rerolls my chance for an equalizing TD given two turns weren't great, especially as I messed up the blocking and so had to dodge more than I should have...  I face palmed, went for the dodge anyway, and then face palmed again. :-)

In the second half I was looking to score quickly and try to win the game, but that didn't quite pan out, so I dropped my Thrower back and shifted flanks hoping to leave those slow Dwarves in the dust.  This mostly worked and then the dice started to go my way as I put my Clawrats to work, a lightning bolt missed (whew!), and so although I wasn't able to score quickly and hope for a good kick I was able to stall scoring until the final turn and feed the ball to a 3 SPP linerat.

Worth watching via BBManager.

Ezrast played a very good game, I can't think of any obvious mistakes he made at all. That wizard did hurt and was probably the difference between a tie and a loss for me (Nuffle obliging); one of the reasons I switched teams was the hope that I'd not have to play against wizards so often - so of course I land in the all-new-teams division.  :awesome_for_real:

got off to a super clean start slapping the norse around.  luckton made a lot of super risky rolls; i'd say roughly one third turned out in his favor, one third were neutral, and one third let me take advantage.  i scored twice without breaking a sweat before luckton's wild flailing started accumulating a body count while i couldn't do much more besides score a giant pile of KOs, which the bugman's brew took care of on the norse side.  second half was an even 1-1 that kept me on my toes but i kept enough momentum to stay competitive.

also we managed to get three free bribes apiece off of kicks.  never seen that accumulate like that before.  thankfully didn't amount to too much carnage.

stats below the spoilers!

I'll look around for you! I'm sorry I've been sort of irritating to grab onto, I'm clearly out of practice being available for people for Blood Bowl.

Cool, I'll start bothering you on steam once it becomes a decent hour again in -8 land.

The Mutiny loses 3-1 to rat bullshit, but it was a little closer than the score would imply, I think. I hope. Perhaps eldaec has a different opinion!

My SHITTY WEREWOLF actually hurt someone (the ONLY INJURY, by the way, The Mutiny is out of bashy practice) so he'll be going up. Block ahoy!

Turn 15 we were 2-1 up, but Sjofn's men were holding one square from the rat end zone, almost certain to make it 2-2.

So naturally Blind Eddie got up from a prone position in the centre of a cage, using dauntless knocked over the Norse ball carrier who was one square from the endzone - picked up the ball under 3 tacklezones, triple dodged out, passed half way up the pitch to a waiting rat, who GFI'd into the other end zone for 3-1.

That's what we call 'one-turn'.

Hey hey, don't forget why the ball was near him, the ball had gotten thrown back onto the pitch near my berserker, who launched a perfect pass to my runner, Stump Junkman, standing in the end zone ... who dropped the ball.  :heartbreak:

This is why I like Lump Beefbroth better than you, Stump. Well OK, that and the +1 str.

Two days to go and still three matches left to play. Remember that when the deadline comes around any unplayed matches will be given as draws unless you have a definite date set and it's not too far into the future.

Celer v Carnifex
Ulysees v Megrim
Haemish v Avaia.

Get those games sorted gents.

I don't think even I've managed to pull something like that off with my elf bullshit team!

So see? It was a CHEAP 3-1.  :oh_i_see:

Bah, at least you got your werewolf to hit something.  Between every skink having dodge and every saurus with Block, I'm surprised he made it out of the match in one piece.

Come on lucky MVP  :why_so_serious:

I reviewed the tape - the full sequence was more complex.

Sjofn was caged on the line. Blind Eddie selflessly dives in but even he can't make the -5 dodge, falls to the ground. Next turn, he blitzes the ball to the ground, it falls loose in the end zone, Eddie dives on it, but falls, knocking the ball out of play. The crowd throw the ball back on near a norse dude about half way back up the pitch, he can't quite make the end zone on turn 16 so he picks up and throws to norseman standing in the endzone. Perfect launch. Failed catch. Ball is on the ground in 3 norse tacklezones, Eddie snatches it up, dodges out, long bomb throw upfield to a linerat, who catches, dodges, gfis. 3-1.

I probably still got some of that wrong. It was awesome is what I am saying.

The Minizilla's 2 - Insatiable 0

In a game that proves luck can win over skill if it could go wrong for Megrim in this match it did. And not only at the crucial times which I am sure made it a more frustrating experience than it had to be. I lost the toss and Megrim elected to receive the kick off. On my first turn I managed to injure a vampire though it passed it's regen roll to stay on the field but Xhooqs had a whale of time tihs match injuring 3 or 4 and KO'ing about the same number while all my other Saurus' tended to just stand around with their thumbs up their arses for some reason.

Megrim didn't bother with a solid cage on his drive in the first half and I managed to have it bogged down by turn 3 and a saurus was marking his ball carrier, he had however worked a vampire into my backfield and things looked promising for him when he made his dodge and threw an accurate pass and I had no one in direct blitz range and had to make a number of GFI rolls to get a couple of skinks in cover range in case the GFI's required blitz failed. Luckily for me the blitz didn't fail and I had an added bonus of a nice bounce giving a skink the ball so I wouldn't have to pray to the lizard gods for no crappy pickup luck on the next turn. Megrims push to backfield had to work otherwise he was out of position to cover me if he couldn't retake the ball straight away and this proved to be what happened as he couldn't knock down the carrier and I raced him upfield then held off the depleted Vampire team for a couple of turns before a turn 8 score to go into the second half minus 2 skinks but having taken out 7 of Megrims players, though enough recovered from KO's or regens to allow Megrim to field 11 players for the kickoff into the second half.

And the second half carried on much like the first. If Megrim had any luck it was only bad and that started with his kick off going out of bounds allowing me to hand off to a Saurus. I was going to go for a standard grind but Hypnotic gaze had me worried so I tried my sideline cage which got bogged down quickly then began the bad luck as failed dodges and block burned through Megrims re-rolls and within 4 turns all re-rolls were burned and though I had some issues with letting my skink carrier get sacked and then having to retrieve the ball and then failing the hand off and pick up twice, things that normally cost a lizardman team to concede touchdowns Megrim never got close because he either failed dodges or blocks, whatever he needed to work just refused to, even to the point where he killed one of my Saurus' who I apocced to BH thank god and on the next move he fails a GFI which comes up dead for his Vampire! Luckily he passed his regen roll otherwise I would have feared for Megrims hardware.

Apologies for Nuffle loving me so much tonight Megrim, tbh thats not the most fun way to win a match when you watch your opponents luck just shit all over them but it's happened to me a few times as well so you just have to grin through it and make sure you murder your next opponent so beware the Insatiable backlash!

Match submitted.

If history is any indication, now that my shitty werewolf went up a level, he will die on turn two of my next match. And that death will reroll into a death or a -1 str injury.

The Chemical Elvers have upset Carnifex Cripplers 3-1, in a pretty standard display of Elf BS.  Keys to the game included Carnifex's skinks not having Diving Tackle set to "ask", and a timely Blitz! event that allowed the elves to receive their own kickoff.

The Elvers chose to kick it off right away and failed to capitalize on a failed skink pickup that pushed the ball out of bounds.  The rust definitely showed on the elves, as they didn't get into position before attempting to steal the ball, ended up burning a reroll on a GFI and then failed the pickup.  The lizards then recovered and assumed control of the field, scoring around Turn 5.  After the kickoff, the elves sent catchers downfield but botched a dodge before they could pick up the ball, and were immediately surrounded by saurusesuses.  A UI bug burned Carnifex though, as a skink did a Diving Tackle onto the body of another skink, which caused them to be unable to moved in the next turn.  This meant there weren't enough bodies to cover the catchers, and the Elvers managed to keep the ball safe long enough to get it into the endzone for the turn 8 equalizer.

It seemed as if the lizards were going to recover in the second half, when a vile +ST/+AG skink made 2 GFIs, Blocked down the elf kickoff receiver, and picked up the ball, all in one action.  He was repaid for his efforts with a BH injury, and that was the end of lizard momentum.  When the Krox proceeded to fail a 2+ dodge, fail his Loner, and KO himself, the elves had the upper hand.  They danced around for a turn and narrowly avoided trouble before throwing a nice little pass to take a 2-1 lead.  The lizards had plenty of time to respond, but a Blitz! kickoff event allowed an elf to squirt past the line and catch the ball cleanly.  The hero elf somehow remained on his feet through the ensuing assault, and his teammates used a chain push to pop him out of the scrum and let him score the third and final TD of the game.

I was VERY rusty to start this game and made a ton of mistakes, but the injury dice were kind and once the Krox knocked himself out I knew I had a decent shot.  I feel bad about the first TD being aided by the UI, but I feel great that my position adjustments before the Blitz! event (getting +ST elf and some Guard on one side to make the hole, and getting a blodger on that side to get under the ball) were the right moves to seal the game for me.  Watch out 40k, elves are coming!

Zellar Dwellarz 1 - Bleating 1

What a slog fest. It started off fantastically as Bleating's Beast of Nurgle was KILLED by a rock thrown from the crowd on the first fucking kick. Then it went mostly wrong for the Skaven most of the match until well into the second half. Nurgle slowly advanced, plowing down rat after rat at will until they scored on their 7th turn. It took an assload of stop and starts from the rats to score as somehow they couldn't complete one goddamn pass even when not in the disturbing presence of the Nurgle Warriors. I began to despair when a blitz from the Rat Ogre freed up the ball from one of those Nurgle warriors for a gutter runner to pick it up, make a dodge and toss the ball into a gutter runner who had been waiting in the endzone for three turns for ANYONE to be able to make a pass to him. With only 3 turns left, Nurgle couldn't hope to score unless I fucked up the kick and I did not. The kick landed in his own end zone and a few turns of skull skull blocks by both of us saw the game over with a draw.

5 casualties on the rat's side with at least 2 or 3 set to miss the next game (2 GR's I think) and the only loss on the Nurgle side being that Beast of Nurgle.

Well, shit.  Game started off horribly as mentioned, and I braced for the worst.   :heartbreak:

After the rats kept falling, things were looking up for me.  I had a chance to go up 2-0 at one point but couldn't get away from the freaksih +ST, ball stripping GR.  I kept injurying at KOing the bastards, but they always found a way to wake up.  I guess I will be happy with the tie.

Now I have to decide if I want to replace the beast or not, guess it depends on how many rat matches come up soon.   :heartbreak: :heartbreak: :heartbreak:

Use the inducements from your lowered TV to stock up on bribes, and just stomp someone every turn.
