Heh, just drag your menagerie up to 30 this weekend and Tues/ Wed focus on getting that first guy to 60 when the XP boost is at its highest.

I am really enjoying the Hulk review. I hadn't touched him so leveling him up with his new stuff is fun.

I mean, Nightcrawler. No disappointment as statistically it'll be a dup for me like 90% of the time.

It is pretty good isn't? About the only real quibble is that his movement power is clunky, though it does go right through stuff that flyers have to drop for and over things the non-flyers have to drive around. It's almost like a teleport.

I got an Ironman. It was too much to hope for one of the two heroes I don't have.

Just started playing this week as Rocket because there's nothing better than playing a raccoon with a BFG (also why gnome and asura warriors are the best). Getting a free hero (Storm in my case) right off the bat was a nice bonus.  awesome, for real

Normally I dislike Diablo-like games, but something makes this more fun than most. The control scheme is kinda annoying (especially when fighting Loki), but I can deal. I just finished the main storyline at 28 -- I suppose the thing to do is various challenges until 45, then do it again on superheroic for some good lewts? Or is it "get to 60 first, then revisit"?

It's pretty much "do the story once, then forget it exists forever." Certain quests offer HP/spirit/skill point bonuses and one of them gives a respec, but otherwise there's no compelling reason to do the story unless you just want to see the story.

Legendary quests are best for leveling followed (I think) by terminals and holo-sim.

It only affects the story and who you can group with. Some chars I don't bother switching until I hit 60. If you actually do legendary story quests then you gotta switch when it starts giving you higher difficulty quests. Also remember the winter boost you got yesterday is also an eternity splinter boost, if you milk it for splinters it should be worth a good 3-4 random boxes.

Well the boosts don't run out if you are in a hub, but the eternity splinter drop timer does. The only way to get that many splinters from one potion is to sit in a hub for 8 mins or so then going somewhere and killing a few mobs, your potion only runs 10-15s per drop rather than several minutes. But you are not actually "playing" in any meaningful way, and it takes forever to use up the three hours of the boost that way. It's something to consider if you are not actually able to give it your full attention but can still get free for a few seconds every 8 mins or so. I've done it once or twice with eternity potions and a good book.

thxinfo! I ended up chaining a few legendary quests (except for the one where you need to kill MGH brutes after I saw a grand total of 2 in 30 mins... maybe that's the mission that acts as a tutorial for the reroll button) and it gave me a nice variety of zerg areas, solo boss runs, and story missions in heroic mode. I was surprised that I didn't need to unlock all the waypoints again, that's a surprisingly anti-dickpunch and/or anti-MMO design choice.  awesome, for real

edit: also, what's the deal with costume crafting? I know you need a core (they started dropping like crazy after I hit 30) and can assign various affixes to the costume as well... figured that this'd be something to mess with at 60, but some internet person said it's best to craft with low-level cores. wut?

Some people think its easier to get a high roll on the costume mods at low levels because there is less variance i guess, i don't think it makes a difference.  You probably want a costume core with invuln on medkit use.

Waypoints used to be why story legendaries were handy, but a couple of months ago, they made waypoints account wide. I have a feeling they did this for technical reasons, but it is a nice side bonus.

On cores and costume affixes: the core sets the level of the costume affix. So, you can add stats and as you replace cores with higher level ones, the affixes will go up. A no core costume is a lvl 1 item. I don't bother with cores until I hit 60 mostly because getting the right combination of crafting materials is annoying because each hero has a different recipe. I think the min max reason is part that the lvl 1 core has less variance in roll possibility, but also the lvl 1 and lvl 60 max rolls are known, not so much for a random lvl 42 core.

Why let crafting items be your block? One level 60 item breaks down into 3 of the tier below and that continues. You get exponential items just by finding one level 60 and they drop like crazy.  Just collect the perfects and trash the rest.

I have no idea how you chaps manage to get heroes to 60.  It's very, very grindy once you hit mid 40.

I know that I was one on these forums that was big in favor of doing it at level 1. There was a smaller variance and when you brought the costume up to level 60 with a max roll you could potentially lose like 1-3 crit dmg on rank 4 out of 1600+. That's not really the case anymore since they reduced the variance and removed the overlap (where rank 4 low roll could be lower than rank 3 high roll for instance).

So now, just do it at level 1 or 60 so you know what your max rolls are imo, but it won't matter much anymore since they improved this over the summer iirc.

For the MGH brutes (and other MM based LQs) if you don't kill the yellow-con mob, more will spawn. So when you have MGH brutes/lava mobs/mole mobs don't kill the yellow mob and you can usually clear the requirement in one spawn if no one else comes by and messes it up for you. It works for all others, just those three usually are the biggest bitch in my experience until I found out about not killing the yellow mob.

And since there are some newer players, here are my Marvelheroes.com bookmarks I still find helpful (just using their website's bookmark system works well for this)

For enchants, mostly don't bother until you have really good things because just about anything "good" has some crazy rare mat you don't want to waste on something you're not going to use for a long time.

About the only thing to routinely use early on is the River of Soul runeword on your uru item. The spirit return and cost reduction is very handy in both the lvl 25 and lvl 50 versions and the mats are not terribly rare.

But for a run down on enchants, your slot one and slot 5 items get damage buffs. Usually I pick the most generic version, like Ranged damage on ranged heroes. There is a crit enchant for slots 1 and 5 that is considered the best, but it takes a Tyr rune which is very rare. For slots 2-4, it's a choice between HP and Spirit for most heroes. These all only take 1 rune.

For Runewords the kings are Power Doop (which you buy with Cosmic currency from that event), God of Mischief (which is one of two dropped enchants and you get from Loki as a semi rare drop in CH 9 on Superheroic) and Bowazon which is on the Enchanter by default but it takes a Tyr rune and the personally vanishingly rare Saturn rune. I have 9 Tyr runes and have only ever found 3 Saturn runes. There are a couple of specialized other Runewords. Juggernaut has his own and there is a summoning one, Doop Inspiration from the Cosmic event.

Last are Blessings, you buy these with Odin marks. They go on artifacts. The king for this is Hela, but there are some other minorly useful ones. These are not as restrictive as the others because you do eventually unlock a recipie on the Crafter to move Blessings around. Because of that they are one of the few trade currencies out there. You can trade unbound blessed artifacts.

You really should use hela blessings on everyone except pet classes who get frigga.  There is supposed to be a blessing review coming soon since all the other ones are very subpar.

Hulk is crazy. About 10% of the time when I'm running a Cosmic, I'll get to Thunderclap and and BOOM! it falls over dead. In addition, I figured out how to clear masses of mobs in terminals. Most of his abilities have fairly long animations so he gets "stuck" in the middle of a billion guys mowing him down. I tried playing him a bit like Juggernaut and that was the ticket. I just hop once or twice then charge through them.
