Nighthawks is my favorite album by him.  What's really interesting is how divided his work is.  Some of it is really jazzy/bluesy, other works is just completely out in left field.  He really falls into that very, very small group of artists that are successful because they are doing whatever is right for them, not what the fans want to hear.

Until this year, Clutch hasn't been in the studio since 2009, I think.  I was listening to their newest album, Earth Rocker, on Grooveshark earlier this week.

I know this thread loves it some thrash metal, but how about something completely different?

Dawn of MIDI  (keep in mind that this is an acoustic album)

I wish the tour would come within driving range. It's sooo good. At one show they did "Battle of New Orleans" which was one of my favorite songs when I was a kid. Which probably explains a lot. I'm glad they're doing an album, anyway.

Holy music triumvirate.

Head and the Heart is playing for free tonight a few blocks from my house @East Street Records.  A few hours later at the same place there's a Pearl Jam release party.  Oh, and Red Fang's new album drops tomorrow, too.  Going to see them again in November.

Three albums, one day.

Dirty Work, by Steely Dan, just came on the Radio at work.  I had forgotten what a shitpile that song is.  I understand that people just love Steely Dan, but I've never been able to tolerate them.

I used to work with a guy in Chicago who would go apeshit if he heard Steely Dan being played on the radio in the shop. It is part of why we only ever listened to WXRT because, while they played way too much shit that Terri Hemmert was gaga over, they NEVER played Steely Dan.

In a bit of mild irony, his name was Dan and he was the foreman of the metals department.

I've only ever cared for their first album.  After that the songs just felt... boring.  Sure, maybe Aja had some really special stuff going on, but I just never got into it.

That doesn't explain how awesome Iron Maiden is and why so-called people exist who don't love them.

I love Butthole Surfers.  I think I must have seen them about a gazillion times in the 80s.  One of my fondest memories was a Butthole Surfer/Ministry weekend.   Heart

I like some of thier previous stuff but never really gave them any serious listens. I heard Reflektor and really liked it and now have been listening to the new album that they threw up on youtube before the release and gotta say im really digging it.

Also, VNV Nation - Aeroscope from their new album, which is starting to grow on me a bit more.

Pentatonix new Daft Punk Medley

For those who don't know Pentatonix, they are an a cappella group - no instruments or synth used in this, just voices.

Saw Red Fang again last night.  Feeling it today though; ear damage status likely.  Without question they've got some new fans because the crowd was twice as big as any time I've seen them before.  However, the 'pit' was one of the better I've been part of.  Anytime someone fell, there was always a few people picking them up right away.  Good crowd, good show.

I love a good pit; rough but not fight-prone, and always respectful of fellow moshers. I hit the Anthrax pit last year and had a really good time, so many young kids but also some knowing grins from theold farts like me. Wasn't hurting too bad, but there is a difference between being a laborer and having put in over a decade at a desk...

I pretty much always wear ear protection now. The only thing it cuts out is crowd noise, you can hear the PA just fine. I've got pretty significant damage in my left ear, after seeing Skynyrd a couple years ago from the front row center where for some reason a tard of a sound guy put a PA speaker facing the audience...and I hadn't brought my ear plugs because that venue generally has a hanging PA that shoots to either side of the first few rows...

I listened to other songs by Satyricon, and it really is Silvert Høyem that makes this video awesome.

Fuck yes, just noticed that Soulfly released a new album a month ago! Time for some headbanging, Max Cavalera ftw! Good thing too, since I was digging deep into old Ektomorf songs at this point.
