Seriously, seriously digging on Hot Chip's latest album, One Life Stand. I do love me some idiosyncratic electro-pop/neo-soul, and Hot Chip usually deliver in spades, but this new album is just somehow so much more affecting and euphoric than I was expecting, it makes me curiously emotional. Hot Chip are one of those bands a lot of people just don't seem to 'get', but I think they've got a good case for reappraisal from some of the doubters now. Here's the single version of the title track

That Diamond tune sounds familiar, but seems to have been released after I stopped listening to him. I only had Fatal Portrait and Abigail. Mercyful Fate was a huge influence on my band.

Catchy tune. Has a real "retro" vibe to it.

Its off conspiracy, "Them" and "Conspiracy" are quite arguably the groups best work ever.

Top of the Hill - Harrys GymI have been really enjoying this band's debut album this week. They're what Bat For Lashes wishes they were I think. For people with Spotify the album is available there.

Massive Attack's Heligoland is good. Not Mezzanine good, but what is? Will likely be one of the best of the year.

I'm reluctant to check it out. What I've heard so far has not been promising. It's just been so long since Massive Attack were something special. A relatively low-key 'solo' album from Del Naja and a bunch of limp soundtracks under other names in the 13 years since Mezzanine has made me think it's a project left on the respirator for too long. That said, Live With Me was slow-burn vintage Massive Attack brilliance - just don't understand why it's relegated to 'Best Of' bonus track status.

If you approach the album with an open mind, you may fall in love with it quickly. If you expect more like Mezzanine and 100th Window (their weakest album because they attempted to continue in the vein of Mezzanine) you may initially be disappointed, but it will likely grow on you with repeated listens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESYuyGJAUeA

Flying Lotus recently became my favorite artist:
No longer underground since he signed to the legendary Warp Records. He'll have a new album out this year. I'm interested to hear more from their new signing The Hundred In The Hands. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2rh_-nDcrUVery dance-punk. Which reminds me, new LCD Soundsystem due this year too. This Alan Vega cover won't be on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZNkDcGtrt8

I've always had a soft spot for the Stones song 'mother's little helper' but this honest cover drives the song home. Something else by the same guy which has an unique quality to it. On another note, Nantes something I wished I made myself had I had any musical talent.

I've been lsitening to a lot of EBM recently, particularly Destroid and their recent Silent World EP. Really liking their cover of Lucretia.

I'm probably a too big a Sisters fan to think this is a better version but really I love where they took this song. Here is the original. Also much love for this post for it somehow reminded me of She's in parties. Which in turn reminded me of that blissful insanity that is youth and the icebears we were.

Did Andrew Eldritch really think we needed to see his chest? Patricia Morrison however is more than welcome to wave her chest around as much as she likes

that was a monster list. Not digging the new Porcupine tree as much as earlier releases, but a fine album regardless. I dug the Aranis song, and will dig around for some more of their stuff. Sounds like something I could work to, which I am need of.

Brann Dailor is, well I have typed and retyped trying to say just how amazing he is but basically it just comes down to I would rather listen to him and/or watch him play over any other metal drummer currently.

I believe that was her primary role. Most of the (clearly synthesizer) bass lines were laid down in the studio by Eldritch.
