They always try to tell us what was best. Let's all agree to disagree on our own terms this year.

3 names. From best to second best and third best. I'll compile results in a couple of weeks.

Mine:

1 - Fallout 4
2 - Bloodborne
3 - Disgaea 5

I actually think it's been a pretty decent year.

1) GTA 5 - didn't the PC version come out in 2015?  A masterpiece, IMO.  First game I have actually finished in probably 40 bajillion years.
2) Fallout 4 tentatively gets the number two spot.
3) Tied between Bloodborne and MGS5.

I am getting super curious about PoE, now that I am starting to see it on sale everywhere.

1. Fallout 4 (mostly for all the potential it has with the modding)
2. World of Warships (best online game of 2015 for me)
3. Divinity Original Sin Enhanced Edition (best "upgrade" to existing game of 2015)

All in all I haven't gotten to many of the new games of 2015 yet (like Pillars of Eternity, GTA5, Witcher 3) which would have filled spots 2 and 3 in all likelihood.

Here's a list of 2015 game releases. I bought very few this year and 2 of the new releases I bought (CODBLOPS3, Just Cause 3) I've played less than an hour of so far so I can't really count them. Which means my list has to go:

1. Fallout 4
2. MGS V
3. Kerbal Space Program - which officially launched as 1.0 this year. Not sure if that counts or not.

I spent most of my gaming time this year playing long RPG's like Witcher 3, Fallout 4, and Bloodborne (in addition to a lot of Hex for a while and Rocksmith). I hate leaving games unfinished and by the end of all three of those RPG's I was playing them almost grudgingly. There's stuff that came out this year like Mario Maker, Until Dawn, and Undertale that had some buzz and that I'd like to put some time into, but I don't think I really played enough different games this year to name anything GOTY.

Underrail is coming out in 4 days... hnnng. Still in the habit of not buying AAA games at launch, so this list is pretty indie-heavy.

1. Invisible Inc.
2. Shadowrun: Hong Kong
3. Divinity Original Sin Enhanced Edition (if re-releases are not allowed, add Telepath Tactics instead)

edit: It's been a pretty good year for RPGs, if nothing else! Pillars of Eternity would've beaten much of the crap we got in the last decade or so, but this year it was just enough for a #4 spot.

In order of:

1) Div:EE because of the substantial improvements and because how fun this game is if played together with a friend

2) Hongkong: Story & (most of the) Writing and Soundtrack. Was just good entertaiment.

3) Pillars: Not that far into the game yet (just reached the homestead/keep), but so far somewhere between decent and good.

2015 was kind of a rough year.

1. Disgaea 5 - Story wasn't as good as D3 but the mechanics are much better. Hands down winner for me.
2. Persona 4: Dancing All Night - A great rhythm game with an AMAZING soundtrack that lets me dress up mai waifus.
3. Huniepop - I totally forgot this came out this year. Played the hell out of it, unlocked everything except a few outfits and hairstyles.
3. Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: Fafnir Knight - Despite being a remake, this game was still a blast. There's enough new content (plus it's been 7 years) that it feels like a new game.

Nothing else hooked me to the point of finishing it, really. Story of Seasons gets an honorable mention, as does Marvel Heroes but despite them calling in MH2015 it actually came out a while ago so it doesn't seem fair.

Edit: New #3, I forgot Huniepop was a thing.

I don't even own 1. Bloodborne
2. Metal Gear Solid V to spite Thief reboots sucking forever, also stealth-punching children
3. Odallus because I couldn't justify paying for any more goddamn videogames after the hojillionth Steam sale HD remaster bundle that I'll never play anyway

This year can suck a butt. Madden Fallout 4 was fun for a while but really in the worst ways. The shambling, worm-ridden corpse of your best friend who just wants a few more rounds of Super Smash Bros. before collapsing into a lumpy heap on your living room carpet.

The only 2015 game I bought was Witcher 3. And I don't think it's a game of the year because of the combat.

2. Shadowrun Hong Kong
3. Fallout 4 (pending Design Fuckups being modded out)

If I treated Fallout 4 as it is now, I'd have to give Pillars of Eternity the nod instead.

Hmm.  I'm trying to think of games I've played that are actually 2015 releases.  I'm coming up with Fallout 4, Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void, Cities: Skylines and Heroes of the Storm.

I think I have to give it to Cities: Skylines.

I actually haven't played it for that many hours, but it does everything I like, does it well, doesn't have a stupid DLC monetization plan, has great support for modding, and it really stands out against the piece of garbage Sim City that was released a couple of years ago.

The game I played the most this year was probably Diablo 3, but that's hardly a 2015 release.

In no particular order, these are the games I've played the most in 2015.

Minecraft (especially modded Minecraft)
Diablo 3 (which became a great game after the update where they removed the AH)
Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword. (also modded)

My entries are not numbered because they're auto DQ anyway; none of them came out this year.
I don't think I've played any games that actually came out in 2015.

I'd put Darkest Dungeon in here, except it's still in early access. Maybe it can be on next year's list  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

I scanned a list of releases trying to find something other than a AAA title that hooked me this year. Not a great year in games. Tempted to put Huniepop on there in protest.

1) MGS V:TPP
2) Fallout 4
3) Witcher 3

I'm not sure I played enough this year.  I mostly played multiplayer games that were released in previous years.

1.  FFXIV: Heavensward (including the 2.0 experience in here)
2.  Warframe
3.  Fallout 4

So, I guess if you go pure 2015 experience, it's Fallout 4.  I enjoy the game and all, but it's not exactly GOY material.  Revised list:

1.  You'll get nothing
2.  And
3.  Like it

Heh, I toyed with writing up everything I played this year in a sort of timeline.  I think it might fit under a page if I keep everything to a paragraph.

2. Invisible Inc.
3. I'd like to say KSP, but I think I played more of that before 2015 than this year... Let's go with Else Heart.Break() then. At least that's unique enough and actually came out this year.

Sometimes I opted just to go to bed.  We're getting old(er).

I had a lot going on.  Not that it necessarily meant I had less time to game, but that buying new games and playing everything right now took a back seat to just getting through the year.

Ah, OK, this is doable.  Nothing this year has really tickled my soft bits such that I feel it deserves being on a list.  Things that I've spent more than 60 minutes playing this year:
Destiny
Borderlands Moon Shit
Fallout 4
Disgaea 5
Diablo 3/Path of Exile (YEAH WHAT OF IT)
Rogue Legacy

I was trying to figure out what 2. and 3. would be, but like Schild said, I really only played maybe 5-6 games this whole year.

1. ROCKET LEAGUE (by a large margin)

2. Undertale
3. I want to put Fallout 4 here.

2) Shadowrun: Dragonfall
3) Football Manager 2015
