Mona Lisa made out of cups of coffee.

What is the name of this "style of art"? Not the use of coffee per se, but the use of (generally) other smaller pictures with the right shades that then create a larger picture.

You were right, it bugged me too but tracked it down as 'Pointillism'.

Is that the right term?  Pointillism was a style which came into use around the late nineteenth century.  For the coffee-cup Mona Lisa it fits, but using pictures to form a picture seems a more modern invention.

Useless trivia:  I won a first place ribbon at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo in seventh grade for a pointillism picture of a deer in a field made with markers.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

Pointilism seems correct. No matter the medium the idea is to use small, distinct dots of color to create a range of colors. Cups of coffee are just really big dots.

Mosaic is correct.

Pointillism is technically not correct. You could abstract pointillism to include what was done with the coffee, but technically speaking, it was a mosaic.

A mosaic is simply a larger image formed from pieces of any material (most commonly glass, often tile, later) where each piece is shaded to fill in an area to create a larger image.

Pointillism is a very, very specific type of art that uses typical artistry in an atypical fashion.

I don't understand why that has text on it. Also, cardboard sticks >>>> tupperware sticks. I guess, though, to people that have never ventured into arcade stick land that this would seem strange and alien to them.

I'm probably not understanding what text you're talking about, but the There I Fixed It is the name of the website the picture probably came from.

And assuming it works, it is pretty damn awesome.

Way too much flex, unless there's some sort of internal skeleton inside that you can't see in the pic.

The cameras we have scattered across the solar system in the last ten years have been simply amazing. Love all of it, though Cassini gets the spotlight. Messenger is sending back some good stuff, too. But my favorite moon in the solar system is probably Enceladus (link only due to size: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/image/0906/enceladusstripes_cassini_big.jpg ).

I'd rather have another 20 camera-toting, instrument-laden probes launched than a single manned mission of any kind--and that's probably about the rough budgetary ratio between those two.

I love pictures of Enceladus.  My perfect shot would be one of Enceladus occupying the foreground with Saturn filling the background.

There's a reason we stopped manned exploration. It just doesn't make sense yet. The one good thing is that it's pushing a lot of R&D, which is always good. But we should've been focusing on these explorer missions as much for the last 30 years (? the span between the current push for explorers and the golden age of mariner et al) as we have been recently.

Always hated coasters with those harnesses, unless they were looped coasters- then it was sort of a evil necessity.

Yea, I always worry about harnesses when my main concerns include imminent death at the hands of the two prime evils - gravity and physics.

That picture is full of Win.  The guy behind the one praying is so nonchalant.  "Hmm.  We do appear to be descending at a rapid clip.  Nice weather today.  A little bright."

It's the Wipeout ride at Pleasurewood Hills in Norfolk (the least likely place in Britain to find any kind of hills as it happens- it's like Kansas but below sea level). So yes, there's an excellent chance that the guy is British.
