EA is just the publisher of Titanfall 2 -- Respawn Entertainment is still an independent studio (for now).

God-Emperor Julian Gollop (Laser Squad, original XCOM, Chaos Reborn, etc) is making a game called Phoenix Point. It looks suspiciously like XCOM:Apocalypse without the suck: a much more involved strategy layer than the XCOM remakes, multiple human factions, encroaching alien biomass that mutates according to player actions, the works... normally this kind of nostalgia-pandering megaproject would go on Kickstarter, but (PLOT TWIST) it's on Fig instead! Which is totally different, obv. Project linkI guess the outcome of this project will show whether we have reached Peak XCOM. The promise of XCOM:Apoc done right certainly triggered my impulse-buy reflexes, but even as a worst-case scenario, we'll learn just how big of a market remains for tactical_turn_based_alien_shooting_game_with_a_strategic_layer_of_some_sort!

Darksiders 3 announced. I loved the first two, but it's been five years and one bankruptcy since DS2 so I'm feeling a bit nervous. Reveal trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-QgJ-EFq7ADoesn't really do it for me so far. Not crazy about Fury's model, her face looks a bit too Pixar to me. I guess we'll see.

My understanding is this announcement was forced by an Amazon fuckup. Basically they posted the pre-order page.

I love Darksiders but Darksiders 2 was really disappointing to me. Until I see some game play that proves otherwise I'm going to be skeptical of this one.

Alan Wake is due to be removed from digital stores this weekend, due to all the music licenses expiring. As such, apparently Steam is selling it for three bucks American until it's pulled.

Three bucks is about $2.99 more than it's worth.

For real. This is one of the very, very few games I regret spending money on at all. I bought it way before refunds were a thing sadly.

Rumor: IO Interactive will keep the rights to the Hitman franchise post sale and Season 2 is still on.

You can now get the remaster of Phantom Dust for free on the Windows app store (or on the Xbox One as well if you have one) if you're into that sort of thing. Downloaded it but haven't had time to mess around with it yet since I've been playing Injustice 2 today.

I'm planning on getting it once I no longer have a job. Is that good enough?

Just a heads up, Playstation is having a Flash Sale.
I got Lords of the Fallen for $3. So far, it's a challenging game that scratches my loot gathering, monster killing itch.

It will be even better not having access to those titles on my Switch - what's the upper limit on all 21 games' memory, like 150mb?

The whole SNES library is about 2.5 Gig give or take, including multiple versions of the same game per region. The average game size was 48 MBit or 6 Megabyte

My SNES is still up and running. Glad I don't have to try and find one should I want to play Zelda again.

I wonder if the SNES games will also be ROMs Nintendo downloaded off the Internet, like they did with the NES Classic Edition. The hanker group that jail broke the NES mini checked the ROM headers of the included games and found that some were straight from popular ROM collections.

Seems fair.

Is there anything on this machine worth getting that cannot already be had via a Wii, WiiU or Switch? In other words, I don't get it.

I believe that there is something particular about the version of Star Fox 2 on the device. Something along the lines of "it's the complete finished version of the game" or somesuch.
I also don't get why they don't sell one with the entire library on it for about $100. I might actually consider that. Assuming that Nintendo produced enough that I could find one in a store, and not on Amazon/Ebay for 3x what they paid for it.
Like that Animal Crossing 3DS I wanted to buy for my wife, but never saw outside of Amazon as a resale. #notbittertoitallybitter

This what I don't get about these classic systems. The games are not large, and yet they're missing tons of games including first party stuff that they sell on other platforms (so there should be no license issues). There are so many emulation devices out there though, that play more than just 1 system and that you can get for the same or lower price. You're not even going to hurt Nintendo's bottom line by buying one, because these things will be sold out until they are discontinued anyway.

I suspect the thinking is that people aren't buying these to play the games on them, they're buying them to own them. They're not really consumer goods, they're collectibles. There's probably a half dozen people on this board alone who could write a decent emulator for a few grand if Nintendo was really interested in selling Punch Out on, say, the PC (the way Sega and Capcom do) and they wouldn't have issues with people going "why doesn't this include Chrono Trigger" or whatever. But I suspect that there's a significant line of the corporate-think there that believes the Wii was so successful partly because it was so hard to get a hold of, and wants to force that to happen again.

The collectibles aspect is exactly it; only the question is 'why aren't Nintendo pricing them higher or producing more to meet demand?' Nintendo is bad at even this aspect of understanding consumers.
It's like it's a company run by a bunch of Japanese Geeks who don't understand consumerism.

Right. If they were $400 they would probably still sell out, and at least everyone would know they were collector's items.
