My wife won't stop buying this stupid shit and it's really pissing me off. It's fucking tapwater, corn syrup, and some ground up vitamins. The whole bottom quarter of our fridge is full of this shit. I tell her it'd be healthier to drink Kool Aid and take a OneADay. And the shit is expensive on top of everything else.

Pepsi finally admitted that their Aquafina water is just tap water.  So is Dasani from Coca Cola. You're probably right about most vitamin water, too.

For the time being, Glacieau is still a separate company.  My company is still distributing it for our neck of the worlds, and will continue to do so until the  folks from coke drop by to pick it up, but we'll flood the market to maximize our total sales in the weeks before that, just so we can maximize our profits.


Fuze, which is about the same thing. just got transferred to Coke this past week. We sold so much in the last three weeks that they' wont be delivering  to stores any time soon.

If  you look at the bottle it has said where it comes from for years.  I always figured they were just tap water especially considering some of the places they bottle it.  If it tastes good, I don't get offended.  I sure don't expect it to somehow be healthier or better for me, except by not having floaty shit in it like tap water in the town I grew up in did...

I can't believe people don't read labels. We buy almost no products with corn syrup, especially the 'high fructose' variety, though it's getting harder since they put it in everything. And as Selby said, the labels for bottled water have said for a long time that it's from a municipal supply.

My fiancee is a bottled water nut, and I'm inclined to agree for different reasons. I think our municipal water is fine, it's the pipes within my crappy old apartment I don't trust. If I owned the place I'd get it tested and fix any problems and drink tap water. Growing up we had sulfur in the water, you could literally get gouts of flame from the tap.

I'd pay good money to see the expression on visitors' faces when this happened.  Also, filter pitchers are a hell of a lot cheaper than buying bottled water. :P

Oh... it said in the story I read that they used an an acronym, PWS, Public Water Source, or something like that and no one really knew what that was.  Maybe I read it wrong or something.  Anyway, I drink bottled water because the water tastes horrible here.

Sometimes a Brita water filter is not enough. There was a period of time when my tap water, which comes from the Sierras, was being heavily chlorinated for some reason and even filtered you could still smell it and so I switched to drinking bottled spring water for a while.

I can't have anything installed on anything here. It doesn't belong to me.  I've tried a Brita filter and water around here, and in NJ, still tastes awful.  Even the cheap Acme water, $4 a case for 24 16.9s, is a million times better.

My standard drinking water is Aquafina, however. They say right on the bottle it's pretty much just filtered tap water. I'm okay with that, it's nice and cold when I buy it from 7-11.

For the most part, I believe the draw of bottled water is from the convenience, not so much that it is any healthier for you or not.  I've seen very few people actually buy and use nice little bottles they fill themselves.  That would make sense, but then you would have to clean them and keep track of them, etc.  We all like the flexibility of just throwing the bottle away or leaving it behind on accident with just a shoulder shrug.

The vitamin water thing is just a way to feel like you are doing something proactive about your health while not really doing anything out of your normal schedule.  Tons of people hate taking pills/vitamins, so compared to that, this is heaven for them.  They are also popular in that, they have flavor.  I'm one of those that really doesn't get off on water alone.  It does nothing for me.  In fact, I avoid it even though I shouldn't.

Flavored water gives me the water I want with some added flavor.  The added nutrients go towards excusing myself of indulging in the sweetness and makes it look like I just came from a workout (why else would I need to replenish my electrolytes??!)

Don't get me wrong.  I rarely buy it anyway.  I drink coffee and beer.  In that order.  Not together.

I love Fiji water.  I've been drinking it forever.  I even had it as an avatard once.  BUT... I feel silly pouring it into my coffee maker at those prices. 

I started drinking Vitamin Water after reading that Glacieau sold it to Coke for $4.1 billion, with 50 Cent making $400 million dollars in the process.

It's pretty good, but it is sweetened with fructose (not of the HF variety, but fructose none the less) so it's off limits (although I remember it only has something like 14mg of sugar, half that of soda).

Oh and Fiji water is the devil, SMARTWATER FOR LIFE (which is manufactured by Glacieau, suprise suprise).

Better yet, fill all the bottles with tap water.

Don't forget food coloring, vitamin water is colored.

Okay, two things: as aforementioned, Vitamin Water does not contain HFCS, just crystallized fructose (which is just sugar from fruits, and easier on you than sucrose). It is tasty and refreshing and only 50 cal/serving instead of 100. I wish they just sold the powder though, because I get sick of my recycling bin getting filled up with those wasteful bottles (I am not a hippie, but I don't condone wasting valuable resources. Maybe I shoulda been born in the Depression).

Fiji water is the devil, because it comes from a company getting rich off an aquifer that no Fijian has access to. In general, Fijians have very little access to clean drinking water, because rich white motherfuckers pay to drink all their water.

Pur water filter ftw. Plus Portland tap water is ridiculously clean anyway because it comes from the Bull Run watershed, which is completely forested (by law). All you ever hafta worry about is the quality of your plumbing.

I just buy a couple of those 5 gallon jugs from two different local sources (well one is actually a local company, one is from a local source but in an inspiring display of efficiency is bottled a few states away)  I'm not such a pre-diabetic fatty that I need to walk around everywhere with a canteen everywhere though.

Like stated, in AZ, one must drink bottled water though we have a RO system at work here (and friends have RO systems where the water doesn't taste too objectionable) that seems to work OK… …but generally speaking, drinking tap water is not advised…

Of course there is.  Define 'spring' and you'll see where the problem lies.

I grew up drinking tap water and so generally I don't have a problem with it.  Unfortunately the building I live in is so old that the water coming from the taps comes out cloudy unless you let it run for a few minutes first.  So, I bought a Brita pitcher to filter it, works fine.  The pitcher I use has a digital monitor on it that is supposed to tell you when to change your filter.  Uh, yea.  It's just a timer.  I've been using the same filter for several months more than indicated, I figure I'll change it when I either notice a change in the taste of the water or it stops filtering out the cloudy particulates.

If I'm out and about though it's Aquafina all the way though.  Simply because it's just water, with no flavor, and doesn't have sodium added to it like Coke does with Dasani.

Spring is just water that naturally flows to the surface, not really that complicated.  Most of the water I get is artesian, which is it's drawn from a well tapped at a low point in an aquifer so relies on natural pressure.  It gets confusing when you get brands like Abita Springs water, which is actually artesian water but is named after the town Abita Springs (though they do have springs there).

Purified is just filtered tap.

I just drink tap.  When I had a condo I put an under-the-sink filter in and it did wonders.  Really though, after drinking tap for so long, bottled water tastes like crap to me.

I just mix my tap water with sugar free kool-aid. I can't taste how bad it tastes.

A lot of people do think bottled water is "purer" than tap water despite the fact that there are stringent quality standards for municipal tap water supplies and none, nada, zero, zilch for bottled water.

Last time I was in AZ visiting the wife's family I drank tap.  I didn't get montezuma'd.  Water pipes out west are going to be far superior to east where some of them are still wood in the old 150+ year-old areas.

If you have problems, it's probably because you've drank bottled so long your body's gone and let the natural microbes die off.  Even water from 'shitty pipes' in the US is better than the crap our ancestors drank from those "pure mountain streams". (Full of Cholera, fecal matter and other bad stuff.. )

Note: I don't advocate drinking foreign tap, only because you're so damn removed from your 'normal' environ and who knows what their purification is like.

Of course, most times water in the desert goes through a higher filtration process than normal water, but we don't drink it because it still tastes like shit.

My city is a runner up.  Neat.  Could explain why I don't get what all the fuss is about the taste of tap, or the need for filters.

I drink the tap water in Phoenix, it's perfectly fine but tastes like dirt. Running it through a Pur filter first does away with the dirt taste. It's certainly much better than the heavily chlorinated places.

I've never liked Tap Water, ever. But I've only lived in Miami, Richmond, and College Park MD before Phoenix. Tap water in all of these places tastes like dick.

Some areas bottled water dosn't make much sense. In others like where my mom lives you pretty much have to if you actually want to drink water. Its not that the water up by her would be harmful as it is fully filterd but she lives near about 4 active/inactive iron mines. The water from the taps around there is pretty murky and you can just taste the iron in the water. It has a very very metallic tang and so most up there go with bottled water. Sure its tap water but there is tap water and then there is tap water  really depends where your local water source is.

Around my place the tap water is fine even in my old apartment building I saved a lot of money per month when I stopped drinking bottled water.

I live in Florida, namely the Tampa Bay area. I know people who live in Zephyrhills, Florida --- yes, the place that bottles Zephyrhills Natural Spring Water --- that buy the same stuff they get out of their tap. It never ceases to amaze me how stupid some people are. If your pipes are a wreck that's one thing, but all of your god damn water comes from the same fucking springs people.

I lived in the Mid East for 12 years and all we drank was bottled water (because of the disease).  So I'm used to drinking bottled water.

When we moved to the states, all the water tasted like ass.  So we got like 4 britas so that we didn't have to wait for one to fill up.  Recently moved to Butt-Fuck East Maryland, and I gotta say, the tap water tastes perfectly fine.

Edit: As for vitamin water/flavored water, it all tastes like dirty water imo.  Basically like dirnking a glass of OJ and then the next day using the same glass for water.  Tastes just orange enough to make me crinkle.

I have a very high energy job and put down a lot of carbohydrates to be able to labor non-stop for hours and hours and hours.

I also end up putting down a lot of sugar, but I only need so much. Soda's great and all, but that's too much. It's also high fructose corn syrup nearly in every product, and it's hard to find Boylan's or mess'kin coke. Also, I cannot drink those sugar substitutes. It tastes so bad to me that it hurts.

Vitamin water has some sugar. Just enough flavor. Some vitamins and vitavetavegamins. Variety. And it's sold on the cheap here.

The tap water's fine in any first-world country.  Canada, England, France, Japan, I've tossed back their tap water with nary a concern and nary a regret afterwards.  Any weird things living in the local water supplies are long dead from their purification systems, so should be perfectly safe to drink.  It's once you start hitting countries with old or substandard water purification that you can regret the hell out of it.  Soviet countries, Mexico, any tiny island country that isn't rich from tourism, you start finding water treatment plants way older than you are and then it's bottled water time.  And once you hit the third world you may's well dig a hole and make a solar distiller to recycle your own urine.

Not entirely true.  I have an uncle who's a civil engineer at EBMUD (the water department for the east SF Bay) and lives in SF.  He flatly refuses to drink the tap water from his SF home, even filtered, because of all the deficiencies in the SFWD's treatment process compared to EBMUD's.  Specifically, SFWD is apparently heavily dependent on chlorination to kill microorganisms (which is why SF water tastes like it came from a swimming pool), but chlorination doesn't necessarily kill everything.  (EBMUD does a lot more stuff involving micro-filtration and biological goop, the details of which I now forget despite having heard a number of lectures on it.)

Of course, in all the years I drank SF tap water I never got giardia or any of the other hypothetical nasties that could survive in SF water, but I do know that the tap water in the East Bay tastes a hell of a lot better than SF's.  I suspect it would have fared pretty well in that taste test.

Better than it used to be, inasmuch as I no longer feel physically ill from the chlorine after a glass of SF tap water.  Still not as good as the East Bay stuff.

I visited the Bay Area last spring and was definitely warned by many people not to drink the tap water for that reason.


The thing that surprised me most about that entire area is the obsession with all-natural, free-range, no-hormone stuff. It's totally not like that on the other coast. I work in a grocery store here to pay the bills and we have a little four foot by four foot section with all-natural stuff. Just walking into Trader Joe's was something amazing to me.

I pay attention to grocery-stuff and try to avoid things which are processed or whatnot.  It's hard to do, though.

We have bottled water service here at home (NW Chicago suburb) but that's because we can tell when our water supplies getting low here in town.  If there hasn't been any rain in a long while, the water gets an odor and a bad taste to it.  I drink tap when I'm brushing my teeth and have no problems showering in it, but drinking it just because I'm thirsty is not going to happen.  We tend to keep filled bottles (from occasionally buying bottled water when we are out) in the fridge to grab.

Growing up I had no problems drinking tap water at my parents house, although my husband doesn't like it much because it's harder than he's used to.  When we go visit, I drink from the tap without a second thought.  Same when we were visiting the bro-in-law's family in Washington state - tap water was just fine.  And personally, using filters on the faucet or those pitchers was more hassle than benefit, so we stopped and got the bottle service.  It works for us.

That also extends to the Chicago area. We have a ton of organic grocers in the area, which is nice. The kid and I are sharing a bison NY strip steak and some shrimp for dinner tonight. It also helps that both myself and the wife get 20% off at Whole Foods.

Really? I used to hang out with a lot of the people who did FNB and the like. Granted I'm more of a moderate and I support the lets go feed the homeless deal, but I don't do all the yay anarchy stuff that is more prevalent in the FNB in Tampa.

We almost got arrested many times trying to feed the homeless, which rather pissed me off. So, I spent a week ditching classes at U of AL to go ahead and do the research to get them started on the path to having a permit to do it. The annoyance on the faces of the cops was priceless. Then we went and skated the Bro Bowl. It was a good time all around.

Also fun was the fact that they were friends with, IIRC, members of The Skunks (or was it The Slackers), so that was some fun ska fanboy stuff for me.

Yeah, there is a hole in the wall bar here called Skipper's which was really into Ska and the whole deal. I remember they had Magadog (sp?) and Skatellites here a little while back.

I wasn't really that big into Ska, but the bar is pretty big for being a blues/ska bar (one of the only ones in town).
