It certainly looked PVP, a lot like EQNext only with airships.

Reminds me of the best mod that nobody ever played, which was followed up by the HD re-release of the best mod that nobody ever played that nobody ever played.

Yes, I'm talking about Air Bucs!

Humble bundle just announced their Monthly subscription service.

$12 a month for a separate set of curated games, you get to keep them when you cancel.

Except you don't get to see what they are. So it's pot luck as to whether you have any of them already on steam, etc or even like them.

You won't even be able to "wait and see what games for this month". From their 'Monthly Bundle FAQ' page(support.humblebundle.com):

Quote
Once you’re signed up, you can look forward to 11:00AM PST the first Friday of each month as the day new games are unlocked.
The bundle contents will be top-secret until that day.

If you haven't subscribed by the time the games are unlocked, you'll miss out on that month's content (except for the instant-unlock game).
You will be unable to purchase bundles from previous months.

Seems like an extraordinarily shitty deal from Humble. I'd rather save $12 a month and then burn it twice a year on the Steam Summer/Winter sales than "subscribe" to whatever random junk Humble pumps out in "highly curated" form. The first month seems okay if you planned to buy Grimrock 2 without waiting for a Steam sale, but othewise... meh.

I also suspect that if one was so inclined, you could just jump on one of the regular Humble Bundle sales for 5 dollars or so and get more or less the same value for it.  Or even more, since you can see what you are getting, while paying less.  I like the idea of everything these guys do, but the games tend to be pretty underwhelming most of the time, so I would never give them regular money unless I just felt like doing it for charitable reasons alone.

...and if you're doing that, you can just give to a charity of your own choice directly - (which you could also research to make sure they'e legit or process your money in a way you approve of).

I never care about more than two games out of any bundle and most of the times it's stuff I wouldn't pay more than 5 euros for anyway. This deal sounds so shitty to me, but in all honesty... have you heard of these things called NerdCube or GeekPack or LootCrate whatever they are these boxes that some kids pay a subscription for and get delivered to their house with some GENERIC and totally random fandom stuff in it? It boggles my mind why anyone would pay real money to get a box of RANDOM JUNK. I guess what they are doing here is riding that vibe, meaning, we are not the target, but there IS a market made of suckers that enjoy throwing money at boxes marked "?" so much that it's worth producing those boxes no matter what. Enter the RandomBundle subscription. As I said, a stupid deal for a society of stupids.

I don't see the appeal of those LootCrate things either, and I'm usually the guy who likes fandom stuff (I always buy CEs of games, etc.).

There's a large crossover for shitty monthly subs with Dr. Who and Joss Whedon fans also.

The people who pack the LootCrates are obviously man-children.  I have found a very few items that I wanted in my son's sub, in particular some embroidered patches of the Tyrell Corporation logo which I'm going to attach to my Boy Scout Class A shirt instead of a real patch.  Then you have the Carnage coffee mug, which I think is going to be valuable only in identifying targets during The Great Purge.

My buddy at work gets that GeekBox thing. He has more money to burn than me. I ended up getting his copy of Ready Player One out of it because he'd already bought it so... yeah, I don't get it either. The Humble Monthly thing? Nah. I rarely spend more than $7 on any of the bundles they have and often only for 1-3 games in the whole bundle. I'm not paying almost twice that for who knows what every month? Well, I say who knows what but if their previous bundles are any indication, I'd be getting a metric fuckton of "I call myself indie so I can use 8-bit pixel artwork instead of hiring real artists" shit that I wouldn't have paid for in the regular Humble Bundles.

I have a friend that loves lootcrate.  Every so often she will show me all the random shit, or be wearing some, or take pictures of her son with a shirt on.  Once she tried to convince me it was a good deal.  Whatever, she is crazy.  If it makes people happy, I guess?

I'll admit I bought one LootCrate at PAX this year, mostly out of curiosity. I was actually lined up for it, got to the front and basically told them I had no idea what I'd lined up for. I paid $40 for a Nuka Cola t-shirt, a Companion Cube key chain, a fancy but uncomfortable Halo lanyard, and some other crap I don't think I ever took out of the box again. Still, I admire the business model.

I have actually never seen Dr. Who, however my Facebook feed is constantly full of blue telephone boxes.

That looks pretty cool.  Though at some point I wonder what even "Far Cry" is supposed to represent or mean as a series.

Cavemen always seemed like a tricky setting to me because they lack so much tech that we'd take for granted.  Like, I'm no expert on prehistoric hygiene, but a lot of those cavemans seemed to have some pretty close shaves from rocking the Gillette Piece of Stone.  Taking the setting realistically seems like it would be really limiting in a lot of ways.  I wonder if someone had some kind of panic attack when they realized they couldn't put radio towers all over the map to double the game length.

Isn't the whole appeal of Far Cry that you do all this shit while driving a jeep and toting a big rocket launcher?

So what's the appeal if you're now armed with a stone axe and can't climb radio towers since they won't be invented for another 10,000 years?

I think it's because the developers are named Crytek.  They made Crysis, too.
