Showcase is neat
But there should still be a public folder. Even if it's just limited to GIFs and JPGs.

To be clear: for what you have in mind, do you need the old "security through obscurity" behavior of having relative links (which is what made it possible to use the public folder as a generic web host)? Or do you just need to be able to copy inline-able links from the shell, similar to what right-click> Copy public link used to do, for individual files?

I want to be able to link directly to images (so yes, copy public link) that also works on a board if I slap [ img ] tags around it. I don't care about the generic web host bit. I care about insanity wolf memes. Working as a generic web host I thought was ridiculous. Edit: To elaborate, I hate this when sending people images Edit 2: I also hate that I had to take a screenshot of the dropbox interface and put it on fucking IMGUR to even show you that.

hmkay. You already know about the s/www.dropbox.com/dl.dropboxusercontent.com/ trick, right? I'm not sure if there are any guarantees around that continuing to work, but it's what I've been using when the imgur plugin is flaky and I want to inline stuff right out of my Dropbox. (check the URL on the above gif) I wonder if I'd be able to get away with making that an automatic thing as an opt-in feature for CX to give people who miss the Public folder. Gonna ask around.

or just add an images folder to the app that allows subfolders and only allows public links to PNGs, GIFs, and JPGs.

Okay, as a dropbox user I pretty much use dropbox as it was originally pitched -- a way to sync/share files. Only very occasionally would I use it to embed an image, so I don't miss that capability much. But: There was the occasional use, so could you walk me through that exploit you posted above? How do you get George drumming as an embed from dropbox?

Change the www in the share link to dl It works, still cumbersome. And thanks for providing workarounds and consideration in the face of customer complaints, Sam. That's the kind of customer service we strive for at the library and it's nice to see it elsewhere once in a while.

The other trick (I found this by googling, not insider knowledge) is to change the ?dl=0 to ?raw=1. That ends up redirecting to a content link for the file on its own.

Divorce papers officially filed, so effective today I am officially single again. So weird....
In this socialistic mecca, you file electronically on the internet, and poof. I mean, they have to process a few things, but that's it. Takes 3 minutes and you're done.
To celebrate, my now ex wife and are going to go out for a strange celebratory dinner. Weirdest divorce ever.

I don't understand. How do your lawyers afford to feed their families? More seriously, how do you divide assets when you're filing electronically? My divorce was pretty amicable (at least as far as finances went) and it still took weeks to dig up the right documentation of all the various assets to get the split all set down on paper.

How do you get married by post? My divorce took 5 years and by then my husband was living with another woman and now he's married again. I try hard not to care. He hasn't paid alimony in years and owes a lot. It's just way hard to try and do anything about it. The divorce really fucked me up and over. BUT... strangely, I can usually bounce back from super horrible things that happen and just about everything that makes me want to cry "oh, woe is me" cracks me up at the same time. The one exception is the fucking toe I just stubbed on the leg of my desk. Dammit.

Well...everything works differently over here. The divorce filing is one thing, the assets splitting a separate thing. The law is also probably clearer, or at least, more clearly interpreted....asset split is 50/50, and there is no. All we have to do is write up what we want to do, get our lawyer to stamp it (won't cost hardly anything), and then get the bank to move some shit. Pretty straight forward. It helps a ton when we agree on most stuff, and don't tend towards pettiness or greed. As for dating? Well....I will get back to you on that

I'm gonna take that with a big grain of salt. Scholars who can read ancient Hebrew are in fact pretty easy to find compared to maybe any other written language that's 1000+ years old--Google Translate is not a good fascsimile for that. I'm guessing this is going to be another of a long series of failures to actually decrypt the thing. I still think the theory that it's a late medieval fraud written to get some sucker to pay a ton for a manual of alchemy/mysteries.

If you're in a state that allows wage garnishment you can try that on him. Also stubbing toes is the worst. I think I broke my little toe a while back.

You should try to get money. Just think how much better you'll with it, being financially more secure. Or just buying things. And he probably really deserves it too.

Well, not worth starting a divorce feud that ends with someone getting shot. But she shouldn't miss out for being too nice or not ensisting on her rights forcefully enough.

If someone was shitty to you and you don't have to pay money to get them out of your life, you came out way ahead IMO. My mom is still in debt from divorcing my stepdad twelve years ago, and he still resurfaces unexpectedly from time to time (he called out of the blue a couple years back to try to get me to let him move into my basement so that he could have a local base of operations from which to stalk help her.).

Not really the same for a lot of older women who were in partnerships where they were financially dependent, and have then been screwed out of a life because the guy decided to give them nothing. You spend half a life with someone and then they take everything and you're left living in government supported housing in a shithole with only benefits because the guy decided to be a fuckwit? Not exactly good enough. Not anywhere near.

In this vein, we're at a better equilibrium than we were after resolving some terrible financial mistakes that were committed unilaterally (not by me) and kept secret (from me). But I don't really know how to get back to something like trust. It does feel a bit like the aftermath of an affair, only it's money. I know the standard thing is counseling, etc., but I am honestly at a loss about that--I tried two therapists for myself about five-six years back and I thought it was catastrophically awful. They were ridiculous and offensive. The one guy didn't even want to know what I wanted to say--he wouldn't let me talk, he just read Hallmark Cards at me for 45 minutes and billed my insurance. My primary care doctor wants me to go to mindfulness stuff, but I know too much (another kind of dilemma, in a way) and I know what it is and where it comes from--mindfulness is Buddhism and Stoicism repackaged as medical treatment. I've been reading Stoics and neo-Stoics and Buddhist philosophers most of my life, I like them, but I'm not paying a bunch more to listen to a dude in a lab coat in a medical building repeat watered-down versions of the same stuff to me like he thought it up yesterday and expect me to be obediently nodding.
If my partner and I are gonna get back on track--or I am--I need something that doesn't insult me. Or something that understands me better than I do. I have no idea where that is. The alternative is bearable--I just keep on keeping on, which is ok. Not optimal, but ok.

Going off my experience (limited) and that of my partner (significant) any therapist/dr/specialist can be bad, and you can get a bunch of bad ones in a row... but then you can also get a good one, and when you get a good one it can be really good. I've only seen a couple of people a couple of times, and like you I don't think/feel I get much from what they advise me. But with the better ones I have gotten something from being able to express intimate thoughts and feelings rather than sitting on/with them, and have someone (with no baggage, interest, or strong opinion) listen to me and (seem to/try to) understand me. Trite, but hey.
